Winter Marksmanship Training

During the week of December 26th- January 1st, Cadets from Torpedo Squadron 8 joined cadets from around the country at the Phoenix Marksmanship Training. It was a great way to get to know more of the cadets and meet cadets from all around the US. They shot weapons that they normally would not have access to, including an 8mm Mauser, a 30-06 Springfield, and a Remington 22-250. Those are not common calibers, and this was a great way to experience those rifles with someone with extensive knowledge about shooting and the weapons themselves. Later that day, they went to Scheurman Arms, a custom hunting rifle shop. That was amazing! They were impressed with the engineering behind creating a one-of-a-kind rifle design, as well as having the whole production process laid out in a garage! He used CAD, CNC Milling, CNC Lathe, CNC Routing, and a manual composite molding and layup process. The whole company is based around a patented Action system. The action was so precise, that the action did not need gun oil to work smoothly. Each cadet fired about 320 rounds during the week.
