Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technicians render safe all types of ordnance, both conventional and unconventional, improvised, chemical, biological, and nuclear to include Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD). The subject of the Torpedo Squadron 8 drill on 22May10 was Explosive Ordnance Disposal. The Oscar dominating movie “The Hurt Locker.” featured the lives of a fictional US Army EOD team. Cadets learned first hand accounts of practices and skills used by military EOD technicians.
Many thanks to Master Chief Petty Officer Steve Marshall who gave the briefing.
Torpedo Squadron 8 had it’s first awards ceremony, with Cadets Collier, Garcia, and Tews recieving their first year ribbons. Cadet Schaffer recieved his second year ribbon. Cadet Tews also recieved an Academic Achievement Award as well as being promoted (temporarily) to E-2.
